Dr Gwen Moore is Director of Teaching and Learning at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, Ireland and served two terms as Chair of the Society for Music Education in Ireland (2013-2017) and the ISME INA Council. She is a member of the International Editorial Board of IJME and also serves on the editorial boards of other international journals in music education.
Gwen has over twenty years experience teaching music at primary, secondary and higher levels of education. She serves on the editorial boards of IJME, MER, BJME and a number of book series in music education. In her role as Director of Teaching and Learning, Gwen provides strategic leadership to the College in the development of Teaching, Learning, Assessment and Feedback. She leads and manages the Learning Enhancement & Academic Development Centre and a team of eight staff. As well as being a member of the Executive Team at Mary Immaculate College, Gwen serves on numerous internal and external committees including inter alia Academic Council, T&L Directorate, Quality Committee, ICT Services Committee, Faculty Boards, Academic Programme Approval Committee. Gwen’s doctoral research is the first study to investigate the curriculum and experiences of music lecturers and undergraduate students at national level and she has published these findings in book chapters and international peer reviewed journals such as Irish Educational Studies and Music Education Research. Gwen holds a Bachelor in Music Education from Trinity College Dublin, a MA in Music Education from University of Limerick and a PhD in Music Education from the Institute of Education, University College London under the supervision of Prof Lucy Green. Prior to her appointment in academia in 2006, she taught music and guitar at primary, secondary and higher levels of education. She is an awardee of several funding awards in the field of music education and teaching and learning in higher education. Her research interests include inter alia: Higher music education; Social reproduction of musical value in higher education; Bourdieu and music in higher education; Popular music education; Unequal access to music education; Teaching and Learning; Ideology, musical value and musical knowledge; Primary teachers’ perceptions of musical ability; Informal learning in music education; Music education advocacy.
