Dr. Xiao Dong is a violin educator and music education researcher whose work bridges instrumental pedagogy, educational philosophy, and learner psychology. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Western University (Canada), where her doctoral research examined metacognition, subjectification, and reflective practice in violin learning.

In addition to her focus on instrumental learning, Dr. Dong explores the implications of AI in music education. Her recent publication in Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education (ACT) examines how generative AI like ChatGPT can support collaborative thinking and researcher agency within music education contexts.
