Dr Suzanne. L Burton is Interim Associate Dean for the Arts and Professor of Music Education at the University of Delaware. Burton specializes in early childhood and K-12 general music, music teacher preparation, and professional development. Her research interests include music acquisition and the development of music literacy, programs and practices in early childhood music teacher preparation, technology and early childhood music, and effective professional development. Dr. Burton is on the editorial boards of Arts Education Policy Review and the International Journal of Early Childhood Music. She is widely published in professional journals, and is co-editor and contributor to Learning from Young Children: Research in Early Childhood Music, and the Engaging Musical Practices Sourcebooks for Elementary General Music, Middle School General Music, and Instrumental Music. Dr. Burton is co-author of Ready, Set, Improvise!: The Nuts and Bolts of Music Improvisation. In addition to her work at the collegiate level, Burton also advises the University of Delaware Community Music School Early Childhood Music for Young Minds program.
