Le (Summer) Ren is a PhD candidate in Music, a piano educator, and an early-career researcher at the University of Auckland’s School of Music. Her research explores the dynamic intersections of performance science, creative piano pedagogy, musician well-being, and sustainable artistic practice. Holding First-Class Honours in piano performance and pedagogy from both Chinese and New Zealand institutions, she uniquely integrates Eastern and Western educational philosophies—an approach shaped by her multicultural background and inclusive values—into both her research and teaching. Beyond her extensive experience as a pianist and teacher, Summer’s broad intellectual curiosity drives her scholarly interests in music education, music therapy, interdisciplinary music inquiry, and nuanced explorations of cultural identity and critical perspectives, informed by philosophy, positionality, and feminism.
