Sanna Kivijärvi is an interdisciplinary researcher based at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and in Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, where she leads research projects and teaches and supervises students at master’s and doctoral levels.

As a teacher educator, Sanna aims at creating educational spaces where pre-service teachers’ taken-for-granted pedagogical practices can be reconstructed through collaborative work and by grounding their approaches in research. More broadly, she is interested in educational and research designs that emphasize critical perspectives and philosophical lenses to curriculum and policy development, and teachers’ ethical and reflexive practice.

Her scholarship has been published for example in Action, Criticism and Theory for Music Education; Research Studies in Music Education; and the International Journal of Music Education.
