Robin J. Freeman is a singer, conductor, educator, and researcher, connecting people through music and drama.

Robin J. Freeman is a conductor, educator, and researcher with over fifteen years of experience leading vocal ensembles in academic, community, and faith-based settings. Her work integrates performance, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on ensemble-based learning and student-led artistic practice.

Robin has held faculty and conducting positions at institutions including Indiana University, The Princeton Festival, and St. Vladimir’s Seminary. She currently teaches methods in facilitation at Simon Fraser University and serves as adjunct faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she mentors graduate students in music education and conducting. Her approach to choral leadership emphasizes responsive curriculum design, interdisciplinary performance, and the development of practical, transferable skills for emerging artists and educators.

Robin's teaching is grounded in the philosophies and practices of dialogue, emphasizing shared authority, relationship building, and collective action inquiry. This orientation shapes both her academic work and her current role with SFU’s Centre for Dialogue, where she facilitates conversations throughout Canada with diverse rights holders and stakeholders on some of society's most pressing challenges.

Robin’s doctoral research at Teachers College examined collaborative leadership in adult choral settings. Her current research focuses on the mixing of choral practice with methods of dialogue used in inspiring and sustaining social change. She has forthcoming publications in edited volumes on student-centered and democratic learning.
