As a faculty member in the Department of Music at the Ohio State University at Lima, Dr. Margaret Young teaches group piano classes and applied piano lessons, and serves as the Director of the Honors Program.

Her current research focuses on curricular development for group piano emphasizing the training of functional piano skills with a strong base in tonal theory and private piano lessons for students with disabilities. This emphasis has led to publications in Music Education Research, the MTNA e-Journal, and Clavier Companion and presentations at international and national music teacher events. In particular, she has focused on the development of piano proficiency requirements that reflect the piano skills that students will use upon graduation.

Dr. Young earned her doctorate in Music and Human Learning with an emphasis in piano pedagogy from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in piano performance and collaborative piano from Bowling Green State University, and a bachelors of arts from Luther College in piano performance with a specialization in Music Management.
