Co-Chair of the Research Commission
Graça Boal Palheiros is Adjunct-Professor of Music Education in the School of Education at Porto Polytechnic Institute, Portugal, where she teaches in both graduate and master courses and coordinates the Master in Music Education. She received a PhD in Music Psychology (University of Surrey, London), an MA in Music Education (University of London Institute of Education), a BA in Music Pedagogy (University of Leuven, Belgium) and a degree in Psychology (University of Porto, Portugal). She is currently co-chair of the ISME Research Commission-International Society for Music Education (2010-2016), and has been a member of the ISME Board and Executive and chair of the INA Committee (2008-2012). She has been president of the APEM - Portuguese Association of Music Education (2006-2012) and editor of the APEM Journal for nine years. Co-founder and president of the Wuytack Association of Music Pedagogy, she coordinates its Teacher Education Centre as well as several editorial and musical projects. She is a member of Research Centers CIPEM/ INET-md (ESE-IPP/ UNL) and CIEC (University of Minho). Her research includes children’s music listening, music teacher education and social inclusion. She has published in several countries and serves on the Editorial Boards of British Journal of Music Education, Eufonía, OPUS, and Revista Internacional de Educación Musical. She presents regularly at national and international conferences and has taught at universities in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Estonia, Japan, Turkey and Spain.
