Brad is currently Senior Lecturer in Music and Coordinator of the Master of Music (Performance Teaching) program at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and is a recent president of ASME (the Australian Society for Music Education). He has been a MISTEC Commissioner for the past three years and is currently a member of the ISME Advocacy Committee. Brad is a dedicated and experienced musician and teacher, who is committed to ensuring all students have access to music education, regardless of their background or location. He believes that all students should experience the joy and power music, knowing the importance of ensuring everyone has the chance to experience music as part of their lives.
Brad is a passionate music educator and currently is Senior Lecturer in Music and Coordinator of the Master of the Performance Teaching program at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne. Brad is an experienced musician and educator, having taught in a range of State, Catholic, and Independent schools in Australia for over 30 years. He has a wide range of teaching experience with students in some of Australia’s largest secondary music and instrumental programs and has specialist knowledge in teaching, technology, and curriculum. He has also worked in teacher preparation at several leading Universities prior to commencing his recent role at the University of Melbourne (Melbourne Conservatorium of Music). He has also worked as a professional performer for many years as a guitarist and bassist while developing a strong connection with music teachers nationally and internationally. He is an immediate Past President of the Australian Society for Music Education and currently serves on the International Society for Music Education’s Commission on Music in Schools and Teacher Education. He has been a Senior Examiner and Assistant Supervisor for the NSW HSC in Music Performance for many years. A passionate advocate for music learning in schools and quality teaching, Brad completed his Ph.D. at the UNSW, examining the impact of self-efficacy on secondary school musicians. He is passionate about the use of technology in music, having completed his Master’s degree in this area, and has also published widely in this area, including contributions to the Oxford Handbook of Music Education and The Routledge Companion to Music, Technology and Education.
