ZURAIDA ABUD BASTIÃO has a PhD in Music Education by Federal University of Bahia — UFBA. She has worked in music education research groups (MeMuBa with Dr. Alda Oliveira and AIRS, with Dr. Lily Hafteck). Her doctoral research, now a book, focused on music appreciation (EMA approach — Expressive Music Appreciation), has contributed to continuous teacher education programs and musical development of elementary students. She is an active member of Music Education Association (ABEM) and the International Society for Music Education (ISME) since 2003. She is financial director of the Center for Production, Documentation and Music Studies (SONARE), also working in the design and organization of teaching projects for basic education. She is a member of the teaching staff of the Specialization Course in Music Education at UFBA and she is an active music teacher at School Zilda Arns from SESC and conducts choirs.

ZURAIDA ABUD BASTIÃO has been involved with ISME since 2003 and has attended ISME Conferences in Tenerife, Spain (2004), in Bologna, Italy (2008), in Greece, Thessaloniki (2012) and Curitiba, Brazil (2014) presenting papers and workshops. She has participated of three Commission Meetings of MISTEC: Granada (Spain), Komotini (Greece) and Curitiba (Brazil). She has been dedicated to teach music to children and youngsters both in private, public and non-governmental institutions. She believes that musical lived and theoretical experiences are vital for all humans. She is confident that she can work in the ISME Board of Directors, aiming to make a difference as a Brazilian and South American, contributing with her personal, academic and professional experiences, sharing creative and sustainable ideas with other colleagues, and developing a diversified and articulated cultural approach to music education projects. Finally, she wishes to contribute to the continued successful development of ISME as a relevant and strong society for the contemporary world.
