Nikki-Kate Heyes MBE has worked in community music for over 30 years and has been at the helm of soundLINCS since its creation in 1998. Nikki-Kate began the Company as a sole trader operating from her home whilst she was a part-time freelance community musician. The remit given to her was to develop music across the fourth largest County in England - Lincolnshire. Today with an office base in Lincoln, soundLINCS is an established not-for-profit organisation, and one of the foremost community music organisations in the UK. Since its inception, soundLINCS has made a major contribution to the transformation of community music landscape. The Company works in partnership with local, regional, national and international organisations, providing and developing high quality and innovative music-making opportunities and training for all ages, abilities, interests and communities. The Company has a keen interest in, and development of, projects with Higher Educational Institutes. This has resulted in the creation of well informed and practical resources and information which are a core part of soundLINCS work to realise the Company’s vision of a musically inclusive world, where good things happen with music. In 2013, Nikki-Kate was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours as the founder of soundLINCS and services to music. Nikki-Kate is an accomplished cellist, conductor and composer. She maintains her writing, arranging and playing skills through the Heyes Ensemble which she formed in 1995. The quartet is a flute ensemble – flute, violin, viola and cello - with a repertoire that spans from Mozart to Metallica!
