My research is on teenagers learning to play guitar with their peers and how they interact outside school. I am interested in the spectrum of ways in which adolescent musicians communicate to learn. My focus is this process: how adolescents verbally and nonverbally communicate to learn music together and without adult teachers.
I am a guitarist in a jazz combo existing in El Paso, Texas for 19 years. I taught beginning guitar and Jazz-to-Rock courses at The University of Texas at El Paso for two years and continue to teach public school music (going on 20 years). I am currently a student and soon-to-be graduate of Boston University. Unofficially, I am a Doctor of Musical Arts and will be official this year.
