Giorgos Tsiris, PhD, is the Arts Lead at St Columba’s Hospice and Senior Lecturer in Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, Scotland.
I have been an active member of the ISME Commission on Special Music Education and Music Therapy since 2012. Over the years, it has been a real privilege to learn more about diverse practices and research initiatives, and to develop partnerships with practitioners and researchers across the world. My vision as current Chair of the Commission is to promote interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue within the broader music and health arena. To this end, I hope to widen participation and representation within the Special Music Education and Music Therapy Commission and to welcome perspectives from psychology of music, community music and medical ethnomusicology. I currently work as the Arts Lead at St Columba's Hospice and Senior Lecturer in Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, UK. I am also the founding editor-in-chief of 'Approaches: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Music Therapy' and my published work includes two books on service evaluation and research ethics respectively.
