Gareth Dylan Smith is Assistant Professor of Music, Music Education at Boston University. He is a founding editor of the Journal of Popular Music Education and author or editor of 10 scholarly books. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and encyclopedia entries in music and music education. Gareth is a busy drummer, playing original music with Stephen Wheel, the Eruptörs, Black Light Bastards, Andy Krikun and Dan Sheehan. He is currently working on an album of eclectic duets titled "Permission Granted". Gareth's research interests include drum kit studies, popular music education, punk pedagogies, sociology of music education, embodied experience and eudaimonia. Gareth's latest book, with Cambridge University Press, is "A Philosophy of Playing Drum Kit: Magical Nexus".
