The International Society for Music Education (ISME) and Gibson Foundation are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2009 ISME-Gibson Community Music Education Award. These prestigious awards are presented to projects that provide opportunities that would not otherwise exist for young people to learn, experience and actively participate in music. Significant funding, resources and mentoring is provided to successful non-profit organizations that provide evidence that they are able to devise an innovative project that targets young people who, through their life circumstances, would greatly benefit from the joy and creativity that can come from a specially designed participatory music program.

The Croydon Intercultural Singing Project (CRISP) was established to advance community building and self esteem through the promotion of participation in the singing/vocal/musical arts, using natural voice, harmony songs from diverse cultural backgrounds and community music and song, particularly targeting low-income, minority and other disadvantaged groups. It achieves this through a variety of music projects using voice, instruments and technology, plus community music facilitator training.
