Expressions of interest are invited for Bids to host an ISME World Conference

The ISME Board would welcome inquiries and Bids to host the ISME 2014 or 2016 World Conference in Music Education.

The Biennial ISME World Conference provides opportunities for ISME members working in all contexts and levels of education to share with colleagues issues of practice, policy and research relevant to their professional contexts in a supportive critical environment.

The aim is to provide professional development and networking to its Members.

Initial expression of interest

An early indication that an organization/consortium/grouping/interested party plans to submit a Bid is encouraged. Six years before the proposed date of the conference is recommended for initial expressions of interest.

The formal bid

  • A formal Bid to host an ISME World Conference should be submitted to the Board of Directors through the Secretary General preferably not less than four years before the proposed date of the Conference.
  • A formal Bid may only be submitted by a national organization affiliated to ISME or other properly constituted national organization, institution or committee.
  • All formal Bids to host a Conference will be considered by the ISME Board. However, the Board reserves the right to initiate discussions if necessary to try and ensure a geographical and cultural spread of Conferences throughout the world.
  • The Secretary General/Conferences Standing Committee Chair will be available to discuss and assist with the format of the presentation. ISME will arrange for the site to be visited on behalf of the Board if the initial approach indicates there is a possibility of holding a Conference at that venue in the foreseeable future.

Process

  • Once the proposed site has been accepted by the Board, a formal acceptance will be sent to the Chairperson or other official submitting the Bid. Until this is received and acknowledged there is no obligation on either side.
  • A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will then be finalized between both parties.
  • The Secretary General and ISME Administration, on behalf of the Board, and the local Conference Organizing Group (COG) will be expected to maintain close links throughout the planning.
  • Conditions in different countries will necessitate certain adaptations and flexibility in the interpretation of the MoA but matters of principle must be brought to the Board of Directors for approval if any fundamental variations from the MoA is proposed.

Note

An extensive Conferences Planning Guide is available from the ISME International Office to assist and guide planning.
