Music Policy: Cultural, Educational and Mass Media Print E-mail

  Mission

It is the Commission's mission:

  • to examine and explore issues concerning cultural, education and media policy development and implementation;

  • to provide an international forum for debate, exchange of information, communication, critical analysis and expansion of knowledge regarding policy development;

  • to recognize the dynamic nature of policy development and music education by responding to issues identified in meetings of the Commission;

  • to promote international collaboration through developing joint research projects across different geographic regions;

  • to disseminate the proceedings of seminars internationally; and

  • to ensure the broadest possible geographic representation at Commission seminars, including new and experienced researchers.

The International Society for Music Education (ISME) recognises that the lived experience of music and music making is a vital part of the everyday life of all people. Its mission is:

  • to build and maintain a worldwide community of music educators characterized by mutual respect and support;

  • to foster international and intercultural understanding and cooperation, by providing accessible opportunities for individuals, national and international groups to share knowledge, experiences and expertise in music education; and

  • to nurture, advocate and promote music education and education through music in all parts of the world.
