WORLD CONFERENCE 20-25 JULY 2008, BOLOGNA ITALY
We will arrange a bus to transport the CMA participants from Rome to Bologna. This is around a 4 hour drive and we expect the cost to be approximately 30 euros. We will depart from Rome on Saturday 19 at 4 pm, in order to allow to spend some extra time in Rome.
For those that need to travel back to Rome, you can look at train time tables and buy tickets online at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html
TRAVEL
AIRPORTS
Rome has two international airports: the airport "Leonardo da Vinci" of Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and the airport of Ciampino (CIA). There are direct flights from most major cities of Europe and also many intercontinental flights.
There are a lot of low cost airlines that fly to both airports (Ryanair, Easy-Jet, Air-Berlin and others). Check location of airports where these land - could be further away.
This might be obvious, but the earlier you book, the cheaper the cost.
VISAS
Check with your travel agent if you require a visa to enter Italy. Plan well in advance, because applications for visas can be a slow process.
TRANSFERS TO HOTEL ASTRID
Refer to the hotel web-site for the location of the hotel and look for your itinerary (on foot or by car)
http://www.astridhotelrome.it/English/location.html
The hotel can arrange a car (3 people) from either airports. The cost is around €50. The organizers will gather the arrival times and attempt to find suitable groupings to reduce costs. Please, let Andrea know when you arrive (

).
For your information, a taxi from Ciampino or Fiumicino airports may cost around € 40-60.
Public transport
If you arrive from Fiumicino Airport:
take the train to "Stazione Termini", the central railway station in Rome. The ticket costs €16). We suggest to you then to take a taxi from the station to the hotel (it would cost €15-20).
Instead of that you might take from Termini Station the Subway "A" to Piazzale Flaminio (direction Ottaviano/Battistini), then the Tram n.2 and get off at the third stop (this would cost you € 1)
If you arrive from Ciampino Airport:
Take the bus from the airport to Stazione Anagnina (the last stop of subway A) and then take the subway "A" to Piazzale Flaminio (direction Ottaviano/Battistini), then the Tram n.2 and get off at the third stop. This transfer may cost around € 5 and will take 50 minutes.
Some airlines offer the opportunity to purchase an advanced ticket from Ciampino to Stazione Termini. These tickets are available for purchase during the flight (around € 16 return).
