ISME Commission On Music Policy: Cultural, Educational And Media
17th International Seminar, 27-30 JULY 2010,

The seminar of the ISME Commission on Music Policy: Cultural, Educational, and Media will take place at the Henan University College of Arts in Kaifeng, China, 27-30 July 2010. The theme is: "Policy concerns: Traditional and popular culture in music education". A sub-theme will address the related issue: "Evolving digital technologies, culture, and music education: Promises and limitations of policies and practices." The Commission invites participation by the global community of music educators, scholars, and graduate students. Observers, including practicing music educators and graduates are also welcome.

Seminar Aim
The aim of the 17th INTERNATIONAL MUSIC POLICY COMMISSION SEMINAR is to explore concerns about relationships between traditional music cultures and popular music culture in current cultural, educational, and media policies. A sub-theme will explore the influence of new media technologies (i.e., emerging and evolving digital technologies) on music education policies and practices.
On arrival
- by air: On arrival to Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, take a taxi to the hotel (~300 Renminbi ), or ask at the counter about a coach going to Kaifeng (~30 Renminbi ). Then from Kaifeng city take a taxi to the hotel (~10 Renminbi ).
- by train: On arrival to Kaifeng train station, take a taxi to the hotel (~10 Renminbi ).

Practical information
- Late July is the hottest time in Kaifeng (over 30 degrees Celsius, 86 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Presenters and observers are advised to bring along sun-block lotion, hat or an umbrella.

Between the Commission Seminar and the Beijing Main Conference
- Registration in Beijing is on Sunday 1 August from 10.00-18.00 (10 am - 6 pm)
- The University may help with organizing tours on request to Shaolin Temple (famous for Martial art and Zen Buddhism), Longmen Grottoes (Dragon's Gate Grottoes) (1-2 days), etc.
